How similar – Buddhism and Vedanta

Tseyang Osel has taken no vows, has no convent, has long hair. She hikes up to Bhutan’s higher mountains and practises her meditation alone for some nine months of the year. Only the severe winter months force her down to manageable conditions.

She states: ‘The higher I get, the better the connectivity’. In her first practices, going higher and higher up the mountain, she says, ‘She found herself’. ‘Continuous repetition of her various mantras brings familiarity, which in turn increases the connectivity’. ‘The familiarity leads to clarity. You have to be clear about the Deity’. ‘The Deity is really the Self’. ‘You need to develop good Tendrel/Everything influences everything else, and have a strong devotion’. ‘There is no female and male – it is the same. They are together like the tea and the milk’. ‘Be relaxed on this journey. Don’t suffocate yourself with endless demands’. ‘In the natural state, we have so many thoughts and confusions – leave these behind’.

Her path has the name Vajrayogini which has a ‘Regeneration phase’ – it seems exactly Swamiji’s Vedanta – Monism/Advaita with different names. Her guru has said follow your heart, don’t listen to others. She stresses she is still receiving advice and should not advise anyone! The English/Buddhist words, ‘Regeneration phase’ really mean the phase of learning/practising through life. Once you’re enlightened you have left the phase.
